On September 23, 2024, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) and the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), through the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), held a media orientation focused on localized peace engagement and transformation in Baguio City. The event aimed to enhance the government’s peace information campaign and foster a shared understanding of peace within communities. Information Officers and media practitioners from the Cordillera Administrative Region participated, including Mary June U. Wacas, KSU Head of the University Information office, representing Higher Education Institutions and the Ykalinga Network of Information Officers.

PIA Director General Jose Torres emphasized the critical role of information officers in peace advocacy, urging commitment to promote government peace initiatives. Deputy Director-General Elmer Jude Mesina highlighted the government’s inclusive approach to peacebuilding. Mayor Benjamin Magalong reinforced the significance of media in expanding peace-building efforts, stating that media platforms can educate and inspire citizens towards reconciliation and unity. PIA-Cordillera Regional Head Helen Tibaldo noted that media engagement is essential for effectively communicating localized peace initiatives and transformation programs. Participants expressed their support for the government’s peace-building initiatives, reinforcing a collective commitment to peace in the region.
