The Year-End Meeting and Assessment Ceremony organized by the Cordillera Administrative Region Association of State Universities and Colleges 9CARASUC) proved to be an inspiring and reflective occasion. Held at Contis Bakeshop and Restaurant, located at Blue Baywalk, Pasay City, the event brought together educational leaders, stakeholders, and honorees to reflect on the past year’s achievements, assess progress, and celebrate the remarkable contributions of individuals to the advancement of higher education in the region.
The event began with a warm and inspiring welcome address from Dr. Eva Marie Codamon Dugyom, the President of CARASUC. Dr. Dugyon set the tone for the evening, acknowledging the collective efforts of all the members and institutions in the region. She expressed immense pride in the strides that CARASUC had made over the past year, highlighting the collaborative efforts that strengthened the educational community in the CAR region.
In her speech, Dr. Dugyon emphasized the importance of the occasion—not just as a celebration of past accomplishments, but as a moment to inspire continued growth and excellence in the educational sector. Her words resonated with the attendees, encouraging them to keep striving for innovation and academic excellence.
Following Dr. Dugyon’s remarks, the event was graced by an inspirational message from CHED Commissioner and Chairperson of the Board of Regents/Trustees Dr. Marita R. Canapi. As a respected leader in education, Commissioner Canapi’s words were powerful and motivating. She highlighted the critical role of education in shaping future generations, particularly in the agricultural and rural sectors.
Commissioner Canapi commended the efforts of the CARASUC community in navigating challenges and achieving success, reminding everyone of the positive impact education has on society. She stressed that while challenges may persist, the commitment to fostering excellence in education and community service must remain unwavering. Her speech left attendees feeling inspired and focused on the continuous journey toward success.
The highlight of the evening was the recognition and awarding of tokens to three distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions. Hon. Susan A. Sumbeling, NEDA CAR Director and member BOR/BOT delivered her message that at the end she became emotional; Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang, former president of Kalinga State University and Dr. Felipe S. Comila, former president of Benguet State University were honored for their outstanding leadership, service, and commitment to advancing higher education in the region. Each of the honorees received a token of appreciation for their tireless work and invaluable contributions to their respective institutions and the broader community. Inspiring and challenging remarks were given by the retirees. Dr. Bagtang delivered his very motivating speech that drove Dr. Gregorio T. Turqueza, Jr., President of Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology mentioned that he is following the template of KSU where Dr. Bagtang started. Dr. Comila’s accomplishment and expression of gratitude was done through a PowerPoint presentation though he was not present physically.
The ceremony was a touching and meaningful acknowledgment of their efforts, reinforcing the importance of celebrating excellence within the educational sector.
The ceremony also featured brief and meaningful messages from the Presidents of the CAR State Universities and Colleges (SUCs). Each President took the stage to share insights and reflections on the year’s progress, emphasizing the importance of unity, collaboration, and leadership in driving positive change in the education system. Their speeches were a testament to the spirit of cooperation that defines CARASUC’s mission and the dedication of their respective institutions.
A key moment of the evening came with the message of Dr. Joy Grace P. Doctor, the President of Kalinga State University. In her address, Pres. Doctor not only reflected on the successes and challenges of the year but also presented her Vice Presidents- Dr. Marilou B. Adora, Dr. Paulino P. Reyes II, and Dr. Lope T. Buen and so with the Board Secretary, Dr. Perfelia R. Buen. She then requested the honoree and former President Eduardo T. Bagtang to join the group for picture taking. Each of the Vice Presidents was introduced with recognition for their roles in supporting and driving forward KSU’s initiatives.
The CAR SUCS Vice Presidents also contributed to the evening’s entertainment by performing an intermission number, where they sang “Sa Paskong Darating” by the mabuhay singers which added a touch of lightheartedness and camaraderie to the proceedings.
The Year-End Meeting, Assessment, and Recognition Ceremony at Contis Bakeshop and Restaurant in Pasay City was a wonderful reflection of the progress made by CARASUC and its member institutions throughout the year. Through the inspirational messages, recognition of honorees, and engaging speeches, the event celebrated both individual and collective achievements in the field of agricultural and rural education. The participation of Dr. Eva Marie Codamon Dugyon, Commissioner Marita Canapi, and the Presidents and Vice Presidents of various CAR SUCs created a sense of unity and purpose, setting the stage for an even brighter future in agricultural education.
As the evening concluded, attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose, motivated by the remarkable accomplishments of their peers and ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the coming year.
