The College of Engineering and Information Technology faculty members immersed in a three-day intensive training and workshop targeting their responsibility on instruction and research last March 12-14 at the Research Training Halls 1 & 2.
Titled as the 2Ps Academy: A Training Program on Publication and Pedagogy, the academic gathering was graced by resource speakers who are full-fledged professors from Cagayan State University and Pangasinan State University.
According to Dr. Ronald Wacas, the college dean, the training was conducted to provide an avenue for the faculty members to gain knowledge and understanding on the requirements of classroom instruction and assessment, the rigors of research writing, intellectual property and publication.
Dr. Rudolf Vecaldo of CSU and Dr. Rhowel Dellosa of PSU shared their expertise and experience on research and publication. Topics included the stages of publication process, ethical considerations on publication i.e. cloned and predatory journals, understanding indexing and citations and recalibrating manuscripts according to journal specifications.
Vecaldo also discussed the fundamentals of intellectual property.
Meanwhile, Brenda Lumines, the University Research Director, oriented the participants on the institutional policies and procedures to consider when working on a research publication.
Dr. Abigail Quimosing-Ocay, the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, also lectured on paraphrasing, proper citation and referencing.
Assessment practices, teaching strategies and the role of teachers in higher education highlighted the lecture of Dr. Apolinaria Andres of CSU. She also extended her topic to the lecture and discussion on research tool validation.
The second day of the training included a break-out session for the general education and core faculty groups. This allowed one-on-one mentoring on the techniques and approaches in publishing technical and social science research outputs.
The third day was allotted for the recalibration of manuscripts and exploration of different journals that are indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.
Dellosa quipped that he makes speaking engagements a commitment to secure outputs from participants; therefore, a monitoring plan on the progress of the CEIT faculty in their publication journey was set.
Dr. Lope T. Buen expressed appreciation of the training workshop further saying that a similar activity must also be done by other colleges or must be conducted university-wide.
Hancy Campos, one of the participants, mentioned being enlightened on many topics relevant to instruction and research publication.
The college intends to fulfill its promised target in research publication until the early part of 2026.#
