Kalinga State University – College of Forestry conducted Project orientation on bamboo industry development for environment conservation and countryside post – COVID economic Boom in the Municipality of Pinukpuk yesterday, August 08, 2024, at the 2nd floor, SB Hall, Junction, Pinukpuk.

Spearheaded by Project Team Leader, Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang, organized by Co – Project Team Leader, Forester Victorino D. Bayed and his members. Participated by Municipal Mayor, Irving B. Dasayon, Twenty-Three (23) Barangay officials, Secretariat of Local Government Units of Pinukpuk and Staff.

The orientation aims to help the participants understand the importance of bamboo to the environment especially to the products in flood and landslide prone areas, idle and marginalized agricultural lands, upland areas particularly covered by the Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) and the resettlement of informal settlers from vital waterways.

The project’s objective is to promote the establishment of Gene Bank and Techno demo for commercial and non-commercial bamboo species, construction of the nursery and production of bamboo planting materials. It also promotes bamboo cultivation to create a sustainable alternative to timber, reducing deforestation and preserving vital ecosystems.

Co – Project Team Leader, Forester Victorino D. Bayed, emphasized the Legal Basis under Executive Order No. 879, series of 2010 and E.O No. 84, series of 2022. He further explained that the bamboo industry holds immense potential for environmental conservation and countryside revitalization. “Bamboo can be processed into a variety of products, including furniture, flooring, and textiles, creating job opportunities and stimulating local economies,” Bayed added.
