Kalinga State University celebrated its 9th University Day on December 13, 2024, with the theme “Through the Years, Celebrating Milestones.” The celebration commenced with a Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Romeo Dawaton, setting a reflective and grateful tone for the day.

In his welcome remarks, Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Paulino Reyes II, highlighted the significant achievements and progress that KSU has attained in its nine years as a university. He emphasized the collective effort and dedication that have driven the institution’s remarkable journey.

University President, Dr. Joy Grace P. Doctor, in her inspirational message, commended the university employees for the strides they have made together. “We celebrate to honor the legacy of those who laid the foundation of this humble university,” Dr. Doctor remarked, urging everyone to continue working towards greater heights.

The celebration’s highlight was the keynote speech by Tabuk City Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR), Benigno A. Duyan. Reflecting on the year’s theme, Duyan underscored the shared dedication and passion that have propelled KSU and the indigenous peoples of Kalinga forward. He also announced the launch of the “Bridges for Ancestors’ Dreams” (B.A.D.) project, an initiative through Memorandum of Agreement with KSU, aimed at empowering indigenous voices in policymaking, advocating for ancestral domain rights, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing representation in local governance.

The event paid tribute to Republic Act No. 10584, which converted Kalinga-Apayao State College (KASC) into Kalinga State University on December 15, 2015. Former Congressman Manuel S. Agyao, who spearheaded this transformation, was honored as the “Father of the University” for his pivotal role in KSU’s establishment.

The program also included the formal oath-taking ceremony for the newly appointed and promoted teaching and non-teaching employees of the University.

In his closing remarks, Chief Administrative Officer, Dr. Romualdo U. Wacas, reminisced about the university’s journey from its humble beginnings as KASC to its current status as a beacon of excellence. He reflected on KSU’s accomplishments across its four pillars: instruction, research, extension, and administration, particularly noting the strides made in infrastructure development.
