Kalinga State University has successfully passed the rigorous evaluation conducted by the audit team from Worldwide Quality Assurance (WQA) Philippines on November 21-22, 2024. The auditors, Ms. Nellie Gan Ang, Ms. Jennifer O. Cortez, and Mr. Homer Alcon, meticulously assessed the university’s compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards and other statutory and regulatory requirements. This surveillance audit, a periodic evaluation conducted by a certification body, ensures that organizations maintain conformity with the stringent requirements of ISO standards. The process involved a comprehensive review of KSU’s documented information, evidence of conformity to ISO standards, and the effectiveness of its Quality Management System (QMS).

Additionally, the Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB), the national accreditation body of the Philippines, conducted its verification to assess the effectiveness of WQA’s certification programs and procedures. Led by assessor Ms. Mary Joan D. De Pablo, the PAB team examined WQA’s adherence to ISO/IEC 17021-1 standards, relevant International Accreditation Forum (IAF) documents, and sector-specific requirements. This assessment also ensured compliance with PAB accreditation procedures and guidelines.

The audit objectives focused on evaluating key areas of the university’s quality management, such as the effectiveness of internal audits and management reviews, actions taken to control nonconformities, complaints handling processes, operational controls, continual improvement efforts, and proper use of the ISO logo. Nonconformities, defined as “non-fulfillment of a requirement,” were reviewed based on audit evidence, regulatory benchmarks, and procedural requirements. The audit criteria encompassed the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System requirements, statutory regulations, organizational manuals, and customer expectations.

University President Dr. Joy Grace P. Doctor highlighted the importance of the audit in her message, emphasizing that the visit was a significant milestone in the university’s journey of continuous improvement. She expressed confidence in the expertise of the auditors and their ability to provide valuable insights that would help enhance the institution’s processes. Dr. Doctor acknowledged the university’s commitment to providing high-quality education, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and managing resources efficiently. She also commended the efforts of the Quality Assurance unit, faculty, and staff who worked tirelessly to prepare for the evaluation. According to Dr. Doctor, the audit reaffirmed KSU’s dedication to excellence, innovation, and service to its students and the wider community.

KSU’s successful surveillance audit underscores its steadfast commitment to maintaining a world-class quality management system and its pursuit of excellence in education and institutional operations. This milestone serves as evidence of the university’s efforts in ensuring that its processes align with global standards while continuing to prioritize the needs of its stakeholders. MJ Wacas-UIO
