On September 12, 2024, the Supreme Students Council and Central Students Government from Kalinga State University’s three campuses gathered for their formal oath-taking ceremony at the Alumni Center, Main Campus. The event, graced by University President Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang and witnessed by Judge Marcelino K. Wacas, key university officials, and student leaders, marked the beginning of a new chapter in student governance.

The ceremony, a symbolic moment for the newly elected student leaders, serves as a powerful reminder of their role in shaping the university environment through service, responsibility, and dedication.

Mr. Reny Putic, Chairperson for Student Development Services from Rizal Campus, opened the event with a quote from Martin Luther King Jr.: “A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.” He emphasized that survival is not about being the strongest or the most intellectual but being the most responsive to change. He also reminded the student leaders that while not all leaders can achieve great things, they can do small things with great love.

In her address, Dr. Marilou B. Adora, Vice President of Academic and Student Development, highlighted the critical role of leadership in unifying, not dividing, the student body. “Leadership is not about power; it is about service,” “Serve with integrity because students are looking up to you.” She added.

Judge Marcelino K. Wacas and Attorney Brandon Dangatag in their messages, pointed the importance of student leadership in fostering a positive and inclusive school environment. Both shared insights on leading with courage, humility, and the drive to inspire their fellow students toward excellence.

In his inspirational message, Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang focused on the significance of the ceremony as not just the start of a leadership journey but also a commitment to serve, inspire, and uplift the student community. “Being a leader comes with great responsibility. Embrace the values of integrity and empathy as you work to represent the voices of your fellow students,” he urged the student leaders.

The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from the Director for Student Services and Placement Services, Dr. Mary Joyce Wangiwang, who expressed her deep appreciation to all participants for their support and encouragement throughout the event.

This important activity reflects the university’s dedication to cultivating student leadership that is grounded in service, integrity, and a vision for the collective good of the student body.
