On December 6, 2024, the “Wakasan Ang VAW” forum was held, bringing together first year student leaders from the three campuses to address the pressing issue of violence against women and children (VAWC). The event, which is part of the university’s effort to raise awareness, educate the public, and empower victims to seek help, was spearheaded in observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence against Women.
The forum featured a series of discussions highlighting the various forms of violence that women and children face and the legal protections available to them. The key speaker, Atty. Lyka B. Asbucan-Bang-as, stressed the importance of community involvement in preventing violence. She gave emphasis on the roles of the participants in the provision of help to victims of VAWC or child abuse. “Strong people stand for themselves, stronger people stand for others,” she reminded the student leaders.
Participants were encouraged to engage in the discussion, raise questions, and even share their experiences, fostering a sense of solidarity and mutual support
The “Wakasan Ang VAW” forum was a significant step towards creating a safer and more equitable society. By raising awareness, educating the public, and empowering victims, the event underscored the importance of collective action in the fight against violence.
As the forum concluded, Dr. Marilou B. Adora, Vice President for Academics and Student Development, commended the speaker and organizers of the forum and further challenged the participants to always have the determination to continue advocating for the rights and safety of everyone.
